Destinations: Winter destination of choice - a very good read on the passage from Lake Ontario down to Florida then to Bahamas and over to Cuba...in a Hugues 25 no less! Local Destinations: One of the best sails to do - if you're travelling with people who haven't been on boats very much is the relatively quick excursion from Cooks Bay to Barrie. This involves about a 3.5 - 4 hour sail up to Big Bay Point and then an hour or so into Kempenfelt Bay into Barrie. Last time we did this we had dinner at Big Bay Point and had a slow and pleasurable dusk sail into Barrie where we berthed overnight at the City of Barrie Marina. Make sure to head into Barrie by foot as the downtown is right there with lots of great restaurants and nightlife! Barrie waterfront, always a popular choice. Transient dockage available at the City of Barrie Marina ($25/day) and Brentwood Marina. Places to go once moored: Fitzys Crab shack right on Dunlop St, great seafood.
The Port of Orillia's annual "Christmas in June" Festival. 3 days in June, decorate the boat and head up!
Blondies By The Bay offering lunch and dinner menus with a patio and entertainment
Beautiful beaches abound the southern shore of Simcoe, the nearest town, Jackson's Point offers full facilities. A night out could include diner at the Briar's Resort 800 722 3271 and a night at the Red Barn Theater (888) 733 2276.
Snake Island: The area between Island Grove Marina (905) 989 1606 and Snake island with shallow water and a white sandy bottom. Not suitable for deep draft sailboats. Choose Fox Island (slightly to the Northwest) for deeper depths.
